Lawrence Tech Tops Madonna in Second Round of WHAC Tournament

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team defeated Madonna (Mich.) University 1-0 in the second round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament this afternoon. This is the second year in a row that the Blue Devils make it to the Championship game.

The first half was scoreless. The Blue Devils were outshot 6-1 by the Crusaders and goalkeeper Max Jewett (JR/Sterling Heights) had two saves. Chris Serwatka (SR/Troy, Mich.) had the opportunity to score in the 30th minute, but goalkeeper Joe Smith saved the shot.

The lone goal of the game was scored by Ryan Resendes (SO/Windsor, Ontario, Canada) after receiving an assist from Serwatka and Alvaro Merino (FR/Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, Spain) in the 49th minute. This was Resendes' fifth goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Crusader Yuri Farkas searched for the equalizer but was saved by Jewett. The Blue Devils looked for the second goal to assure the victory in the 58:02 mark, but Smith saved the shot. Jewett made five saves in the last half of the game to maintain the 1-0 lead.

The Blue Devils will play the Championship game of the WHAC Tournament against Indiana Tech on Saturday, November 10 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The time is still TBD.
