Blue Devils Defeat Trojans 7-2 in Season Opener Match

Upland, Ind.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) women's tennis team won their first match of the 2018 season against Taylor University (Ind.) with a final score of 7-2. This is the first time the Blue Devils beat the Trojans on the program's history, after losing their two previous encounters. The score of the all-time series is now 1-2

LTU won two doubles matches, #1 and #3. In the #1 doubles match, Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mex.) and Anusha Varudandi (SO/Parkland, Fla.) beat Molly Fletchall and Courtney Clark with a score of 8-4. In the #3 doubles match, Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) and Maria Alvarez (JR/Ames, La Coruna, Spain) beat Corinne Hoffman and Lydia Browning with a score of 8-2. In the #2 doubles match, Samantha Kohn (SO/Dearborn, Mich.) and Samantha Weber (SO/Clarkston, Mich.) lost against Alexa Kling and Taelor Grose with a score of 8-4.

In singles, the Blue Devils took the victory in the #1, #3, #4, #5, and #6 matches. Varudandi won her match with a score of 6-4 and 6-1, Mateos with 6-0 and 6-1, Kohn with 7-5 and 6-3, Weber with 6-3 and 6-4, and Alvarez with 6-4 and 6-2. Vega-Hazas lost her match with a score of 6-2 and 7-5.

LTU will go back to the courts tomorrow morning in the doubles tournament hosted by Marian University (Ind.) in Indianapolis, Ind. at 10 a.m.
