MARIAN, Ind. – September 20, 2025. The Lawrence Tech women's tennis team, guided by head coach
Griffin Mertz, battled through a doubleheader on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University, earning a 4-2 win over Judson University before falling 0-4 to host Indiana Wesleyan.
In the opener against Judson, the Blue Devils set the tone with a decisive win at the doubles court, where senior
Jacqueline Alcocer (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and sophomore and
Claudia Calabuig (Villena, Spain) paired up for a 6-2 victory. LTU then rolled in singles behind two emphatic sweeps: sophomore
Isabella Aray (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) dominated 6–0, 6–0 at No. 3, and junior
Miriam McCormick (Grand Blanc, Mich.) matched it with a 6–0, 6–0 victory at Court 6.
The evening match up against nationally ranked Indiana Wesleyan proved more challenging, though the Blue Devils still found bright spots. At No. 3 doubles, junior
Paola Herrera Rivera (Tabasco, Mexico) and
Isabella Aray earned a 6-4 win, showing strong chemistry against a tough pairing. Despite LTU's determined efforts across singles play, the Wildcats clinched the overall result.
With a 1-1 record on the day, the Blue Devils showed depth and resilience against quality opponents.
