| By:

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Lawrence Tech women's tennis turned in a dominant effort while the men battled through a tight lineup in a split against Spring Arbor University (Mich.) on Saturday in Southfield. The Blue Devils women claimed a 5-2 team victory behind a clean sweep in doubles and two straight-set singles wins, while the men dropped a competitive 5-2 decision highlighted by a pair of strong singles performances.

The women's match was controlled from the opening doubles point, as Lawrence Tech swept all three courts to seize early momentum. The top duo of Claudia Calabuig and Rocio Lopez set the tone with a 6-3 win, establishing early pressure on Spring Arbor's lineup. On the second court, Paola Herrera and Isabella Aray were nearly flawless, rolling to a 6-0 victory that quickly pushed the Blue Devils in front. The third pair of Jackie Alcocer and Miriam McCormick completed the doubles sweep with a convincing 6-1 result, sending Lawrence Tech into singles play with a commanding advantage.

In singles, the Blue Devils converted that strong start into the decisive team points needed for the win. Aray carried over her doubles form and delivered one of the most efficient performances of the day, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Lopez added another key point in the singles lineup, grinding out a straight-set victory of her own, 6-3, 6-4. With the doubles sweep and those two singles wins, Lawrence Tech secured the 5-2 team result, with the women's side displaying depth and consistency across the order.

On the men's side, Lawrence Tech came up on the short end of a 5-2 scoreline, but the Blue Devils earned quality results in singles that underscored the competitiveness of the match. Despite dropping the overall decision, the team received standout efforts from Carlos Patricio and Takuya King, who each collected straight-set victories.

Patricio produced one of the Blue Devils' most complete performances, winning 6-4, 6-2 in his singles match. His opener featured steady baseline play to secure the 6-4 first set, and he pulled away in the second behind consistent serving and pressure on return games. King matched that level with a composed effort of his own, taking his match 6-3, 6-4. King established control early and then closed out the second set by holding serve in key moments to lock down Lawrence Tech's second point.

Although the men's team ultimately fell 5-2, the results from Patricio and King, combined with the women's 5-2 team win, provided a solid foundation for Lawrence Tech as the Blue Devils continue early-season play. The women's doubles dominance and efficient singles finishes, along with the men's top-line singles success, give the program momentum heading into the remainder of the schedule and upcoming nonconference and conference tests.
