SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's soccer team lost their WHAC opener 3-0 against Madonna University (Mich) in their home match under the lights on September 21.
After holding the Crusaders to only one goal in the first half, LTU (3-4-1, 0-1-0) lost control of the game in the second, letting in two quick goals in the later minutes of the game. While they repeatedly had chances throughout the game, Julia Stewart of Madonna continued to stop the shots they had on net with seven saves at the end of the game.
Rebecca Almandoz (SO/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) continued to direct her defense despite the loss, recording 10 saves, three of which were up close shots. Jordan Messing (SR/Bruce Twp., Mich.) also aided in the defense, continuously clearing the ball on the many attempts made by Madonna (6-2-0, 1-0-0).
On offense, the Blue Devils just could not find the back of the net, despite the two tries by Alayne Nyboer (JR/Grandville, Mich.) and Allexus Barnes (SO/Middleville, MI), and the single shots taken by Lauren Wasiak (SO/Walled Lake, Mich.), Katelyn Mather (SO/Bloomfield, Mich.), Lindsey Schupbach (FR/Rochester, Mich.) and Laura Silverman (SO/Rochester Hills, Mich.). MU outshot them 21-8, but LTU had more corner kick opportunities at 5-3. LTU also had three more fouls than the crusaders with five to their two.
Lawrence Tech continues their WHAC games with a match against University of Michigan-Dearborn on September 26 where they play under the lights again at home. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
