SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's soccer team stunned University of Michigan Dearborn with a 3-0 win marking their first WHAC win of the 2018-2019 season.
The Blue Devils controlled the possession of the ball from the very start of the game resulting in them becoming 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the WHAC. The first goal came early, nearly 17 minutes into the game. Alayne Nyboer (JR/Grandville, Mich.) assisted a well-aimed header from Lauren Wasiak (SO/Walled Lake, Mich.) that went right past the Wolverine Keeper. Shortly after, they struck again, this time an assist from Marie Anne Torres (SR/Mississauga, Ont., Canada) right to Katelyn Mather (SO/Bloomfield, Mich.) who placed it over the head of the goalie. The last goal came in the second half which was scored once again by Wasiak. Rebecca Almandoz (SO/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) received the majority of playing time, making two saves on two shots.
The Wolverines only got four shots off on goal by the time the game ended. LTU beat them in nearly every positive stat but saves and tied them in the amount of fouls, which ended up to be six for both teams. University of Michigan-Dearborn Keeper Jordan Anheuser accumulated six saves throughout the game, keeping her team in the game and fighting, but it wasn't enough.
The Blue Devils travel to Concordia University (Mich.) on September 29 where they continue to face WHAC opponents. The game is set to start at 4:30 p.m in Ann Arbor, Mich.
