LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team took a 2-0 lead at Madonna (Mich.) University before falling 3-2 (20-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-20, 15-5) in five sets on Wednesday night in Livonia, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (10-6, 4-3) took the lead playing well, hitting .349 in the first set to take a 1-0 lead. In set two, they held Madonna to zero hitting percentage and forcing the Crusaders into eight errors to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 win.Madonna (12-4, 4-3) battled back with three straight set wins where Lawrence Tech hit sub .000 from the attack and saw the Crusaders average over .300 in the final two sets.
The Blue Devils were led by Jessica Lodge (SO/Macomb, Mich.) who finished the match with 16 kills and a .237 hitting percentage while Varvara Gromakova (JR/Moscow, Russia) hit .289 with 15 kills. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) recorded 42 assists and 28 digs while Brittany Schmidt (SR/Richmond, MI) added 10 digs and two service aces.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Friday, Sept. 28 when they host University of Northwestern Ohio at 7 p.m.
