SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated University of Northwestern Ohio 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 26-24) on Monday night in Southfield, Mich. The win ends a three-game skid and get them their third win over the Racers in program history.

Lawrence Tech (11-6, 5-3) started the match on a strong note, taking a 12-8 lead and expanding it to 17-11 as Varvara Gromakova (JR/Moscow, Russia) served the Blue Devils into a six point lead. Lawrence Tech continued to dominate, taking a 22-14 lead before the Racers mounted a comeback, cutting the lead to 23-20. Lawrence Tech closed the set with two straight points to win 25-20.

Northwestern Ohio (14-4, 4-4) jumped all over the Blue Devils in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead before LTU took a timeout to settle themselves. Out of the timeout, Lawrence Tech won three straight points and cut the lead to 9-6. However, the Racers went on a run to take an 18-12 lead. The Blue Devils didn't fold as Gromakova once again served them to within three points while Zakia Hunt (JR/Livonia, Mich.) helped cut the deficit to 21-20 with two kills. A Northwestern Ohio timeout tried to slow the Blue Devils run, but LTU was undeterred. They took five of the next six points to seal the comeback and take set two 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead on UNOH.

Lawrence Tech and the Racers played a back-and-forth set three with 16 ties and no team had more than a three point lead as the Blue Devils held on for a 26-24 win to seal the match 3-0. Zakia Hunt led the way for Lawrence Tech with a .529 hitting percentage on 12 kills while Jessica Lodge (SO/Macomb, Mich.) added 10 kills. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) finished the match with 33 assists, three aces, and seven digs.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, September 29 at 1 p.m against Indiana Tech in Southfield, Mich.
