Southfield, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) women's volleyball team won their WHAC opener match against the University of Michigan-Dearborn (Mich.) with a score of 3-0. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 11-2.
After a tough start, in which the Wolverines lead the scoreboard with a 7-3, LTU made a great comeback and won the first two sets with a score of 25-23. In the first set, the Blue Devils had 31 total attack attempts, 13 kills, and 8 errors. In that same set, the University of Michigan had 27 total attack attempts, 10 kills, and 7 errors. In the second set, LTU had 33 total attack attempts, 14 kills, and 6 errors. The Wolverines had 33 total attack attempts, 10 kills, and 8 errors. LTU won the third set with a score of 25-6. The Blue Devils had 19 total attack attempts, 8 kills, and 1 error. The Wolverines had 22 total attack attempts, 1 kill, and 8 errors.
The Blue Devils finished the match with 35 kills and a 0.241 hitting percentage. Jess Lodge (SO/Macomb, Mich.) was the Blue Devil with most kills, ten. Additionally, her hitting percentage was 0.429. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) was the player with most assists on the match, 27. Lexi Szymoniak (SR/Onaway, Mich.) and Doherty were the Blue Devils with most digs, seven each.
The Blue Devils will be back in the action next Wednesday, September 12 at Don Ridler Field House in their second home match of the season against Lourdes University (Ohio). Opening serve is set for 7 PM.
