Blue Devils Upset (RV) Siena Heights 80-77 on Wednesday Night

ADRIAN, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team defeated (RV) Siena Heights (Mich.) University, 80-77, on Wednesday, January 16 at the SHU Field House in Adrian, Michigan. Ty Searles (SR/Pontiac, Mich.) led the team as he scored in the double digits for the 19th-straight time this season and dished out a team-high three assists. 

Lawrence Tech (9-10, 6-6) shot 54 percent from the field, including 50 percent from beyond the arc. LTU scored nine points off eight turnovers by the Saints, and capitalized on nine second-chance points off six offensive rebounds. The Blue Devil bench outscored the Saints' 13-7.

Searles' 29 points on 7-for-20 shooting from the field included 3-for-8 from deep and 11-for-11 from the line. Devonte Myles (SR/Tampa, Fla.) contributed with 19 points, one steal, and three rebounds. Isaiah Cumberland (FR/Columbus, Ohio) and Sanna Sisawo (FR/Oak Park, Mich.) scored seven and six points off the bench in 24 and 19 minutes of action, respectively.

Siena Heights (10-8, 7-4) shot 47 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. Josh Winowiecki led the Saints by scoring 19 points, and was followed by DeMarco Dickerson and Keith Jordan Jr., who scored 17 and 15 points respectively. Dickerson and Kevin Smith II recorded two steals each.

The game remained close throughout, with the teams trading the lead 11 times with another 11 ties. The Blue Devils had a four-point deficit in two different instances within the first 12 minutes after tip-off. However, Carter Frantz (FR/Dansville, Mich.) hit a timely three to spark a 16-11 run. Lawrence Tech went to the halftime break with a 1-point lead, 39-38.

The second half continued the trend with six ties and 12 lead changes. Siena Heights struck first within the first minute of this half and took advantage of a 16-9 run to build a 6-point lead with 13 minutes remaining. The Blue Devils engineered an 11-4 comeback to recover the lead halfway through the second half. Myles scored a layup to give LTU the lead with 36 seconds remaining on the clock. Searles added a pair of free-throws to seal the win at 80-77.

The Blue Devils will be back on the court on Saturday, January 19, when they visit 25th-ranked Indiana Tech (13-9, 9-3) in Fort Wayne, Indiana at 1 p.m.
