Blue Devils Dominate Olivet in 3-0 Sweep on Wednesday Night; Open WHAC Season on Thursday at Goshen

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's volleyball team defeated Olivet (Mich.) College 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-14) on Wednesday night to open the home slate at Southfield, Mich., with a victory.

Lawrence Tech (2-3) controlled the match from the start, taking a 14-8 lead on the Comets in the opening set. The Blue Devils and Olivet traded points early in the set, but tied at 8-8, the Blue Devils went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. Olivet cut the lead to three points at 19-16, but an attack error on the Comets and a kill from Zachary Narkiewiczclosed the set out with a kill to take it 25-21.

The Blue Devils continued to control the match as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set following an ace and kill from Lawrence PattonCalvin Ooms made it 12-6 and a solo block from Ooms pushed it to 13-6. Olivet made it a five-point set at 15-10, but the Blue Devils were too strong as they took the set 25-14.

The third set was all Lawrence Tech as they built a 9-2 lead off Patton's serve and built it up to 21-10. Stefan Sretenovic served four straight points for the Blue Devils to push LTU to an 11-point lead. Ooms got the final point for Lawrence Tech, on a kill from Gospel Sua.

The Blue Devils were led by Patton with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Ooms and Narkiewicz each had seven kills while Sua recorded 21 assists in the win. As a team, Lawrence Tech hit .409 with just five errors and 32 kills while Olivet hit .360 with 22 errors.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court Thursday, January 17 at 7 p.m. when they head to Goshen (Ind.) College for the conference opener.
