Blue Devils Struggle Early at No. 25 Indiana Tech, Fall 70-57 in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team fell at No. 25-ranked Indiana Tech 70-57 on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Lawrence Tech (9-11, 6-7) struggled from the floor early on, shooting 2-for-9 from the floor as Indiana Tech built a 13-4 lead in the opening seven minutes. Devonte Myles broke the 12-2 run with a layup followed by a jumper to make it a 15-8 game with 11:03 left on the clock. Indiana Tech responded with another run, this one an 11-4 run to take a 26-12 lead on Lawrence Tech.

The Blue Devils once again cut the lead to 10 following Ty Searles tip-in with 4:54 left in the half, but the Warriors finished the half strong taking a 39-20 lead into the break. Lawrence Tech went 0-for-11 from beyond the arc and shot 10-for-31 from the field compared to the Warriors who shot 16-for-33 including 3-for-8 from the three-point line.

Lawrence Tech found their shot in the second half, hitting 41.9 percent to win the half 37-31. Jalen Bethel led the charge out of the locker room with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting in the second half. The Blue Devils went 5-for-11 from beyond the arc as they chipped away at the Warriors lead, getting within 14 points off a Searles three-pointer with 4:22 left in the game.

Indiana Tech went back up by 17 points when the Warriors fouled Myles with 1:19 left. Myles hit one of his two free-throws to make it a 70-54 game with 1:19 on the clock. Arthur Asberry followed with a three-pointer to cut it to 70-57, but the clock was not in favor of LTU as the Warriors held possession to end the game.

Searles was one of three Blue Devils to finish in double-digits, leading the way for Lawrence Tech with 20 points followed by Bethel with 17 points. Myles finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds. The Blue Devils finished the game shooting 37.1 percent from the field including 5-for-22 from three. Indiana Tech was led by four shooting in double-digits with Dylan Phair and Max Huber scoring 15 points each with Lucas Lehman and Logan Primerano adding 10 points each.

The Blue Devils are back on the court Wednesday, Jan. 23 when they host Madonna (Mich.) University at Don Ridler Field House. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
