Blue Devils Fall to Madonna 81-52 on Wednesday Night

Lawrence Tech (9-12, 6-8) fell behind the Crusaders early as Madonna opened the game on a 6-0 run. Jalen Bethel stopped the run with a jumper to make it 6-2, but the Crusaders pushed the lead to 17-3 with 13:47 left in the first half. Isaiah Cumberland stopped the run with a three to make it 17-6. The Crusaders continued to make shots, shooting 53.1 percent from the field in the first half as Jonathan Swift scored 20 of the teams opening 46 points.

Madonna extended its lead to 20 points as the Blue Devils struggled from the field in the half, shooting just 28.6 percent from the field. The Crusaders ended the half with a 46-16 advantage as they were 6-for-10 from beyond the arc.

The Blue Devils started to make shots in the second half, cutting the lead to 19, 59-40, with 9:32 left in the game. However, Madonna's first half lead helped stave off the Blue Devils as the Crusaders went up 81-52 to earn the win over Lawrence Tech.

Ty Searles led all scorers with 30 points on 10 for-16 shooting in 37 minutes of action. Bethel finished with eight points and nine rebounds while Devonte Myles added six points. Swift led the Crusaders with 24 points and five assists.

The Blue Devils return to the court on Friday, Jan. 25 when they host Finlandia University at Don Ridler Field House. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
