Blue Devils Fall at (RV) Siena Heights 3-1 on Wednesday Night

Lawrence Tech (3-4, 1-1) dropped the opening set to the Saints 25-16 as they hit .065 from the attack compared to .361 by Siena Heights as they set the tone for the night. The Saints jumped out to a 9-3 lead and never trailed as they went up 10 points at 18-10 as they cruised to a nine-point win to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set saw the Blue Devils hit .000 with just six kills and six errors in a sloppy set by both teams. Siena Heights hit .087 from the attack with five errors and seven kills as they built an 18-7 lead on the Blue Devils. The Saints closed the set on a pair of LTU errors to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Lawrence Tech jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set as they Javier Contrerasserved them to a 12-7 lead. Siena Heights cut it to 14-11, but a kill from Max Jewett started a 9-4 run that put LTU up 23-16. The Blue Devils closed the set with the Saints making three errors on the final four points to cut the match lead to 2-1 with a 25-17 win.

In the fourth set, the Saints took control early with a 9-4 lead, but the Blue Devils cut it to 11-7 on a Lawrence Patton ace. Siena Heights followed with a 6-3 run to take a 17-10 lead. They closed the set winning four of the final five points, taking it 25-16.

The Blue Devils were led by Calvin Ooms with 14 kills and a .323 hitting percentage while Zachary Narkiewicz hit .304 with nine kills and two errors in 23 attacks. Gospel Sua added 35 assists while Jewett had four block assists and eight kills.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court Friday, Jan. 25 when they travel to the Gray Wolves Invitational in Sylvania, Ohio hosted by Lourdes (Ohio) University. The Blue Devils open with Webber International on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by (RV) Robert Morris (Ill.) University at 5:30 p.m.
