Box Score SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's volleyball team fell to No. 10 Saint Andrews University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon as they wrapped up the Gray Wolves Invitational in Sylvania, Ohio.
Lawrence Tech (5-5, 1-1) faced a 2-0 deficit after dropping the opening two sets to the Knights, 25-17 and 25-23. However, the Blue Devils responded with a strong third set to cut the St. Andrews lead to 2-1. Lawrence Tech and the Knights were tied at 6-6 in the third, but a 10-3 run by the Blue Devils pushed LTU to a 16-10 lead. St. Andrews cut the lead to 19-17, but that is as close as they would get as LTU closed the set out 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Blue Devils and Knights battled in a back-and-forth set, tied 10 times including at 11-11. St. Andrews scored the next three points to take a 14-11 lead, but LTU responded on Gospel Sua (SR/San Diego, Calif.)'s serve, taking the next seven points for an 18-14 lead. The Knights never got close again in that set, falling 25-18 as Joshua Eckert(JR/San Juan, Puerto Rico) served the last two points to tie the match at 2-2.
In the final set, Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 6-1 lead as Zachary Narkiewicz(SO/Galloway, New Jersey) had a pair of kills while Stefan Sretenovic (SO/Belgrade, Serbia) served for the Blue Devils. The Knights did not go away though, storming back to tie the set at 9-9. They closed the set on a 6-3 run to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
It was the Blue Devils lone loss of the Invitational and are now 5-5 on the season. Eckert led the Blue Devils in kills with 18 while Sua added 42 assists. Calvin Ooms (FR/Amstelveen, Netherlands) and Narkiewicz each had three block assists while Narkiewicz finished with 15 kills.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Feb. 1 when they travel to Elgin, Ill., for the Judson Early Bird Tournament. The Blue Devils open with Lincoln College at 2 p.m. and Mount Mercy at 6 p.m. On Feb. 2, Lawrence Tech faces Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 10 a.m. and Robert Morris (Ill.) at 2 p.m.
