No. 23 Lawrence Tech Eases Past Rochester 3-0 to Move to 16-0 in WHAC Play

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 23 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated Rochester (Mich.) University 3-0 (25-5, 25-14, 25-16) on Wednesday night in Southfield, Mich. The win gives Lawrence Tech 16 straight wins in conference play as they move to 25-2 on the season.

Lawrence Tech (25-2, 16-0) was led by Madeline Hudson with 14 kills on 21 attempts with no errors for a .667 hitting percentage while Jessica Lodge finished with 10 kills and six digs with a .381 hitting percentage. Kristi Doherty recorded 33 assists with four kills, 14 digs, and one ace. Isabella McDonald added eight kills followed by Marriya Henry with seven kills and four block assists. Peyton Heady finished with three kills while Alexis Snider had nine assists.

The Blue Devils took command of the first set as Lodge served 12 straight points to give Lawrence Tech a 14-2 lead. Hudson finished the run with five kills while McDonald added two with one from Doherty. Rochester took the next point, but it was Lawrence Tech that closed the set out with a 9-1 run to win the set 25-5.

In the second set, the Blue Devils did more of the same as they went up 13-3 as Shelby Rasch and Gromakova led the way for Lawrence Tech with strong service games. Hudson added four kills while Lodge had an ace and three kills during that opening run. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 20-9 as Nichole Hyduk served the Blue Devils into a 4-0 run with kills from Heady, Lodge, Henry, and four assists from Snider. Lillian Regnier closed the set with a kill to give Lawrence Tech a 25-14 set win and go up 2-0.

Rochester (2-24, 1-15) battled in the third set as they tied the match at 2-2 before Lawrence Tech took a 7-3 lead off a Hudson kill. The Warriors cut the Blue Devils lead to 7-5 and extended the lead to 20-12 lead off Henry's kill. Henry sealed the set with off a kill to take the it 25-16.

The Blue Devils will look to win their 17th straight conference match on Friday, November 1 when they host University of Northwestern Ohio at Don Ridler Field House. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
