Women's Basketball Defeats Grace Christian 68-48 on Kid's Day; Head to Leah Whittaker Memorial Tournament in Indiana on Friday

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - With a very rambunctious and lively crowd of Southfeild Public School's students, the Lawrence Technological University women's basketball won 68-48 against guest Grace Christian College  (Mich.) on Wednesday, November 6th. 

Leading the Blue Devils to victory was the 18 points of Teryn Kline, who went 50% from the three point line. Another highlight was Kendall Fisher's nine assists and two steals. defensively, both Kaitlyn Smith and Hope Dollarhide had seven rebounds, including four offensive ones from Dollarhide.

The Blue Devils (3-1, 0-0) were quick paced in the first quarter, grabbing five threes and going 55% from the three point line. Fisher grabbed five assists in the first quarter alone, while Kline grabbed six points and Rachel Price grabbed five.

In the second, LTU dominated the floor, scoring 21 points to the Tigers (2-4, 0-0) nine. Hanson stood out, going 100% from both the field goal range and the three pint line. Smith did the same, going 2-2 in both parts of the court, grabbing six points. 

Following halftime, Lawrence Tech let up a bit, letting Grace Christian hit 10 points compared to their own 16. LTU struggled to find the net in the three point range, but several impression single handed plays by Emily Langolf contributed to the deficit. Langolf grabbed six points alone in this quarter and two rebounds.

Closing the game, the Tigers found a rhythm, going 50% from the three point line. They scored 15 points compared to the Blue Devil 11 and limiting Kline to three points. Despite this, LTU continued to shoot in all ranges of the court, including going 75% from the foul line. LTU did not force the Tigers to the foul line once this quarter, keeping it clean on the court. 

Next up, the Blue Devils travel down to Marion, Ind. where they will play in the Leah Whittaker Memorial Tournament starting on November 8th. They start their play there with a facing of the Taylor University (Ind.) Trojans. The Trojans (2-0, 0-0) are ranked 15th in the nation in the NAIA. Then, on Saturday the 9th, they face Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats (2-0) have only faced WHAC opponents for the 2019 season, beating Aquinas (Mich.) 66-54 and Cornerstone (Mich.) 71-45.
