Box Score MARION, Ind. - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team defeated the (RV) Indiana Wesleyan team 75-61 to conclude their trip in Indiana at the Leah Whittaker Memorial Tournament. Leading the team was a strong force in the form of Kendall Fisher with 26 points on the night. Four Blue Devils in total grabbed double digit points in the victory.
In the first quarter to open the game, the Blue Devils grabbed a lead of 19-8, including a five point streak in the first two minutes of the game. Lawrence Tech went 7-13 from inside the three point line. They also dominated the defensive end of the court, with six defensive rebounds and limiting the wildcats to single digit points.
In the second, it was much of the same, except Indiana Wesleyan limited the Blue Devils scoring to nine. Fisher scored seven of the nine points in this quarter, including a three pointer from deep with 30 seconds ticking away to take the Blue Devils into the second half of the game.
In the third, the host of the tournament, IWU, took control, scoring 20 points to LTU's 16. the Blue Devils again went hard in the paint and grabbed eight rebounds, including six defensive rebounds. They also had three assists that turned into points. In this quarter, Kline controlled the court, grabbing eight points and an assist. despite the effort of the Wildcats, the Blue Devils went into the fourth still ahead 44-34.
The fourth saw either team pushing each other hard, with IWU capitalizing on their free throw opportunities. Indiana Wesleyan started the fourth down by eight, but IWU narrowed the lead to 2, tying the game up with 2 seconds to go in the fourth and forcing the game into extra minutes.
In overtime, the Blue Devils dominated the court from start to finish, capitalizing on their free throws, going 4-7 from the three point line and grabbing 10 rebounds. They streaked to the finsih past the Wildcats and increasing the lead to 14 to seal the match with a score of 75-61.
The Blue Devils went 100% from the foul line, going 17-17 on the night in the team win. Also, doing extremely well were returners Kaitlyn Smith, who had 13 points and lead the team with eight rebounds, Rachel Price with 11 points and four rebounds and Teryn Kline with 10 points.
