SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 20-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team wrapped up their first WHAC Regular Season Championship on Saturday night, beating Siena Heights (Mich.) University 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-13) on Saturday night. The evening was a celebration of the seniors and the perfect conference season, going 20-0 in WHAC play joining Lourdes and Madonna as they only teams in the last 10 years to finish the conference season perfect.

Lawrence Tech (29-2, 20-0) celebrated their seven seniors before the match, honoring Kristi Doherty, Zakia Hunt, Varvara Gromakova, Alexis Snider, Mackenzie Fisher, Brittany Taber, and Sarah Davis. They are the first group of seniors that won a regular season title and led the team to a 28-2 record with an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

In the opening set, the Blue Devils took a 15-9 lead on the Saints on Gromakova's serve and extended their lead to 17-13. Siena Heights responded with a 12-5 run to take the set 25-22. In the second set, it was all Lawrence Tech as they opened the set with a 7-3 lead and extended it to 17-12. They closed it out with an 8-5 run to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 set win.

In the third set, it was more of the same as Lawrence Tech went up 17-14 and sealed the set 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead on the Saints. In the fourth set, the Blue Devils began to show their might as they went up 12-4 on the Saints as Gromakova, Lodge, Doherty, and Fisher all on the serve during that run. Lawrence Tech extended the lead to 21-9 and closed the match out with a kill from Gromakova.

The Blue Devils were led by Hunt with 15 kills followed by Isabella McDonald with 11 kills, and Gromakova with 10 kills. Doherty finished the match with 42 assists and two aces while Nichole Hyduk closed the match with 24 digs and two aces. Madeline Hudson added seven kills while Taber added two kills on three attacks.

The Blue Devils are back on the court Wednesday, Nov. 13 when they host the first round of the WHAC Tournament, opponent to be named. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
