Blue Devils Fall 73-57 in a Second Half Surge Made by Johnson & Wales Wildcats

Box Score

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team fell on December 29th against Johnson and Wales (Fla.) in a 73-57 loss due to a late surge by the Wildcats. They now look towards one more road game in Florida before heading back to Michigan for their next series of WHAC match-ups.

In the loss, three Blue Devils (10-5, 5-1) grabbed double digits points. Teryn Kline and Kendall Fisher both grabbed 11 points, while Danielle Hanson had 10. Rachel Price led the team in rebounds with 10.

What attributed to the Wildcats (10-1) coming out on top was the 43% field goal shooting percentage and grabbing nine more rebounds than the Blue Devils. Another contributing factor was in the second half of the game, the Johnson and Wales team scored 51 points to the LTU 29, securing their win and leaving the back and forth game seen in the first and second quarters behind them.

The first quarter, the teams kept pace with each other, grabbing 12 points from either side. However, come the second quarter, Lawrence Tech saw an opportunity to grab a lead, with scoring 16 points and limiting the Wildcats to a game low of 10. The team also saw a high of six assists in the first half of the game and limited their fouls to seven.

The second half, starting with the third quarter, was a different story. JWU started with a game of catch up to their six point deficit. The Blue Devils stretched their lead to 37 to the Wildcat's 26 with three back to back threes, two of which were sunk by Kline. However, with four minutes to go, the Wildcat's took off and did not look back, gaining the lead 44-41.

The Wildcats opened the fourth much how they closed the third, with back to back field goals and limited the Blue Devils to a lone three four minutes into the game. Despite the Blue Devils best efforts, JWU kept on making their attempts, including going 61% from inside in the second part of the game. The Blue Devils could not find their rhythm, going 3-8 from the foul line in the second half alone.

Next up, Lawrence Tech searches for a road win at Keiser University (Fla.) tomorrow, December 30th. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m..
