BLUE DEVILS LOSE MOMENTUM FOLLOWING FIRST HALF; FALL TO DEARBORN 68-60

Box Score

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -  The Lawrence Technological University men's basketball team fell to University of Michigan-Dearborn Monday night on the road in Dearborn 68-60. Throughout the back and forth game, the Blue Devils fought the Wolverines (9-19, 7-12), keeping close in the first half, however, they fell behind in the second after a series of turnovers and a tighter Dearborn defense. Lawrence Tech now prepares for their last home game of the season against #8 Cornerstone University on Wednesday where tip off is set for 8 p.m.

Leading the team in points was Ty Searles (SR/Pontiac, Mich.) with 21. Searles also led in assists with four and collected six rebounds on the night. Devonte Myles (SR/Tampa, Fla.) collected 17 points on the night and led the team with 9 rebounds, went 6-8 from inside and hit all four of his free throw opportunities. While the Blue Devils had a better percentage in both field goals, sinking 43.5% versus Dearborn's 37.3%, and three point shots, 36% versus 24%, they suffered on their free throws and turnovers. LTU hit only 68.8% of their foul line shots while UM hit 90%. Along with the 14 turnovers and being offensively out-rebounded by 8, the Blue Devils move to 12-14 overall and 7-10 in the WHAC as they get closer to post season.

The first half saw a back and forth play from either team, including Lawrence Tech going 50% from both inside and outside the arc. Searles maxed out during this half receiving 17 of his 21 points in the first half alone, pushing the game for the Blue Devils to lead 39-36 going into the second. However, due to this major output, the Wolverines came out in the second, limiting him to four points. This allowed Myles and Alek Ivanovic (SO/Macomb, Mich.) to step up, Myles collecting 17 while Ivanovic 12, but the distributed scoring from the Wolverines and eight turnovers and ten fouls ended the game for Lawrence Tech.

Wednesday,  the Blue Devils host the #8 ranked team in the nation and #1 team in the WHAC, Cornerstone University (22-6, 15-3) for the last home game in the Don Ridler Field House of the regular season at 8 p.m. The Golden Eagles are led by several heavy hitters, including Sam Vander Sluis, who holds the #1 spot in defensive rebounds per game, total blocks and the #2 spot in blocks per game, defensive rebounds per game, total rebounds per game and total rebounds. He leads his team in points as well with 552 points this season.
