Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team fell to Rochester (Mich.) College on Senior Day at Don Ridler Field House.
Lawrence Tech (12-12, 7-8) honored their senior class before the game, celebrating the careers of Ty Searles, Devonte Myles, and Daylon Blakely. This group has helped lead Lawrence Tech to the best season in Blue Devil modern history.
The Blue Devils struggled from the floor in the first half as Rochester opened a 10-2 lead less than three minutes into the game. Lawrence Tech missed four of their first five shots and had two turnovers to start. The Warriors went on to take a 42-28 lead at halftime.
Lawrence Tech shot 37.5 percent from the floor, but was just 2-for-11 from beyond the arc in the first half. In comparison, the Warriors shot 48.5 percent from the floor and went 4-for-14 from the three-point line. Rochester also took advantage of the nine Blue Devil turnovers, turning them into 13 points. Lawrence Tech held the advantage in second chance points with seven.
Rochester (14-13, 7-10) continued to build on their halftime lead, taking a 60-42 lead with 11:49 left in the game. The Blue Devils responded, chipping away at the lead, cutting it to eight points with 4:27 remaining. However, the Warriors had an answer each time the Blue Devils would cut it to within 10. Lawrence Tech cut it nine, at 71-62, but the Warriors answered with an 11-4 run to go up 16 with 1:49 left. That run sealed the win for Rochester, as the Warriors held on for the 82-70 win.
The Blue Devils were led by Searles and Jalen Bethel who both scored 19 points while Myles added 14 points and Carter Frantz scored 12 – 9-for-9 from the line. The Warriors were led by Khalil Gracey and Armand Cartwright with 16 points each while Justin Nafso scored 15 and Cap Wilson finished with 14 points.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Monday, February 11 when they travel to UM-Dearborn for a 8 p.m. tip in Dearborn, Mich.
