Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After a close first half, the Lawrence Technological University men's basketball team fell to the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles 79-62 to move to 3-8 in the WHAC.
The first half saw a competitive Blue Devils open the game, down three points going into the half. Capitalizing on a weak three point average made by the Golden Eagles, LTU battled to gain the lead throughout the first. Narrowing a four point lead with a minute to go, Brandon Beavers hit two free throws to get within two. Despite a late foul made by the Blue Devils, CU only went 50% from the line, giving LTU the chance to bounce back in the second.
To open the half, Logan Daniher made a quick layup to narrow that Golden Eagle lead by one. Adding to the early comeback was a three point shot from Alek Ivanovic after a CU turnover. The battled raged on, with CU hitting a three of their own, but that was stifled by a mistake made by the Eagles, which gave Jordan Henry the opportunity to tie it up and then grab the lead by one off a two made free throws. The half continued like this, until Cornerstone started to stretch the lead following a series of lay-ups with 10 minutes to go. While Lawrence Tech fought, their shots were not falling, on top of nine turnovers and six blocks made by the Golden Eagles.
Despite falling to the Eagles, three Blue Devils managed double point nights, including Jordan Henry who led the team with 13. Right behind him was Logan Daniher with 11 and point guard Brandon Beavers who had 10. Ivanovic led the team with six rebounds, four of which were offensive.
Lawrence Tech travels back home to prepare for their next WHAC opponent at home. They face the University of Northwestern Ohio come Wednesday, January 22nd following the conclusion of the women's game at 6 p.m..
