FT. WAYNE, Ind.- The Lawrence Tech Women's Soccer program headed to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, on Saturday, October 10th, with one thing on their mind, and that was coming back home with a victory. The Blue Devils did just that on Saturday with a 1-0 win over the Warriors of Indiana Tech.
In what was a defensive showdown for the first 47 minutes of the game, the freshman forward Jenny Dear, a native of Norton Shore, Michigan, got a pass from junior Madison Bologna down the line, as Dear took the pass gliding across the pitch to find the back of the net to make it 1-0. It was the only goal on the day in what proved to be a defensive battle all afternoon.
Overall, the Blue Devils took 17 shots on the afternoon, with seven of them coming on goal, with 14 fouls called on the Blue Devils. Senior goalkeeper Rebecca Almandoz had eight saves to her name in a clean sheet performance for her. Gaffer Andy Richards had this to say about the team's performance this afternoon, "we did not play to the high standards we have previously set for ourselves. But we found a way to win a tough game on the road. Congratulations to Jenny Dear on scoring her first collegiate goal, and to the whole team for picking up three valuable points."
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils take on the Grey Wolves of Lourdes University slated for Saturday, October 17th, game time is at 3 PM at Blue Devils Stadium. It will be another critical matchup in the race for the top of the WHAC this fall and heading into the spring season.
