Blue Devils squeak by in back and forth game

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Tech Men's soccer program was back on the pitch at Blue Devils Stadium Saturday, October 17th, on a cold, windy night to take on the Grey Wolves of Lourdes University. The Blue Devils were able to prevail late in the second half of the game to make it 4-3 and move to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the WHAC.

It marked the Blue Devils second win this week at home after being blanked on the road by Indiana Tech last Saturday, October 10th. Overall the Blue Devils had 11 shots, seven of them being on goal for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils got out to a commanding lead in the first half with a goal coming off an assist from Juan Jaramillo to Aleksander Spirovski at the 6:43 mark of the game. As the Grey Wolves defense started to settle in, Juan Jaramillo grabbed another assist, this time to Alvaro Merino at the 23:06 mark in the first half take a 2-0 lead.

Not so fast, though, as the Grey Wolves answered with a goal of their own around the 35:00 mark of the first half, making it 2-1. The Grey Wolves then scored a minute later, making it 2-2 at this point in the game. It would come down to who could get just the right ball to go ahead in the game. Heading into halftime all knotted up, the Blue Devils challenged their coaches to come together and get back on top; senior Juan Jaramillo answered the coach's call. Juan Jaramillo found the back of the net off a penalty kick to make it 3-2. The Grey Wolves wouldn't score again until the 61-minute mark of the game, making it 3-3. However, late in the game, around the 75-minute mark, Juan Jaramillo put what would be the dagger for the Blue Devils in the back of the net, going up 4-3. The Blue Devils defense would step up big in the last 25 minutes of the game to seal the victory.

Overall the Blue Devils were on the wrong end of the official's cards, receiving a yellow card at the 75:25 mark of the game given to Reece Still. The Blue Devils to eleven shots compared to the nineteen shots by the Grey Wolves. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils had nine saves overall, while the Grey Wolves only had three saves.

The Blue Devils push forward in their conference schedule, taking on the Warriors of Rochester University on Friday, October 23rd at 3 pm at Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Michigan.
