Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- Lawrence Tech kept a late push by Rio Grande in the fourth quarter to seal the victory 76-66 off of Kendall Fisher's 18 pts on Wednesday evening inside the Don Ridler Field House.
The Blue Devils (1-0) shot 40.7 percent from the floor, 78 percent from the charity stripe, and 20 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Fisher hit 8 of 10 shots at the charity stripe, shooting 5 of 17 from the floor to lead the Blue Devils with 18 on the night. Fellow Blue Devils Teryn Kline had 16 pts and was 3-3 at the charity stripe, while Kylee Batey had 10 pts and went 7-10 at the charity stripe.
It was a tough first quarter for the Blue Devils, who shot 26 percent from the field while the Red Storm came out hot, shooting 40 percent from the floor. The Blue Devils went 0-4 from beyond the three-point arc in the first quarter of the game. The first quarter ended with a one-point lead for the Blue Devils at 12-11. As the second quarter rolled in, a different Blue Devils team was here going 7-14 shooting 50 percent from the field and 2-5 shooting 40 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Meanwhile, the Red Storm, who came out hot, cooled down in the second quarter, going 4-17, shooting 23 percent from the field.
With the second half underway, the Blue Devils outscored in the third quarter by 10 pts 26-16, went 5-14 from the field shooting 35 percent and 0-4 from beyond the three-point arc. The Red Storm shot 50 percent from the field in the third quarter. Not so fast, though, as the fourth quarter came about, the Blue Devils found a groove of sorts. The Blue Devils went 6-12 from the field, shooting 50 percent, while also going 1-3 shooting 33 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and going 15-18 shooting 83 percent from the charity stripe. The Red Storm would struggle to find a rhythm offensively in the fourth quarter going 6-18 from the field, shooting 33 percent.
A slew of Blue Devils made their debuts tonight in the early season, with Jade Faris grabbing 5 boards and 6 pts in her debut as a Blue Devil. Fellow newcomer Cierra Harris grabbed 4 boards and 5 points, while Gracie Mitchell knotted 2 points and a steal in her debut. Emily Langolf provided a spark off the bench with 6 points and 2 assists tonight. Meanwhile, Gabby Gough grabbed 5 boards and scored 9 points for the Blue Devils. Julia Huey rounded out the Blue Devils win, scoring 4 points and an assist in her efforts tonight.
The Blue Devils hit the road Saturday, October 31st, for a Halloween showdown against the Cougars of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Game time is slated for noon tip at the Hutzell Athletic Center.
