SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- A cold Wednesday night in WHAC Conference action at Blue Devils Stadium, Cornerstone (3-2) scored a goal off a penalty shot in the 93rd minute to knock off Lawrence Tech (4-2), 1-0.
Overall the game was close across the board, with Blue Devils outshooting the Golden Eagles by one shot in the game 13-12, while the Golden Eagles saw more save attempts throughout the game with seven total saves compared to the five by the Blue Devils. Overall, corner kicks were all knotted up at eight apiece. The game-changer was the overall fouls as Lawrence Tech committed 12 fouls on the night to just the four fouls that Cornerstone committed.
A late mistake on the backline of the Blue Devils defense in overtime offered up a penalty shot for the Golden Eagles, which found the back of the net in what was otherwise a defensive battle for 90 plus minutes.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will take on the Cardinals of Concordia Ann Arbor in their final match of the fall season. Overall the Cardinals look to leap in the standings while the Blue Devils look to solidify a top spot heading into the second half of their season starting in February.
