SOUTHFIELD- With Halloween in full effect as the Blue Devils kicked off their game against Concordia and a chill in the air, the Blue Devils and the Cardinals were ready to clash. The result on Saturday night in Blue Devils Stadium was Lawrence Tech riding the wave from their standout freshman this fall, leading them to a brilliant victory over Concordia.
Jessie Koje got a pass from DiOnna Hill to pop the ball in the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead over Concordia at the 3:50 mark of the game's first half. Koje's 4th goal on the season after putting a hat trick together last weekend against Rochester University. A defensive battle ensued for the Blue Devils and Cardinals until the 55:32 mark of the game, as Jenny Dear got a stellar ball off the foot of DiOnna Hill to find the back of the net to put the Blue Devils up 2-0. It looked to be another clean sheet for Rebecca Almandoz, her 3rd of the year, but not so fast. Concordia found the back of the net off a corner kick header at the 78:14 mark of the game to make it 2-1. The Cardinals would keep pushing and challenging the Blue Devils' backline, who has only allowed 3 goals this season. But the backline would dig in and continue to show their defensive prowess the rest of the game to seal the victory for the Blue Devils.
Overall, Rebecca Almandoz saw 5 shots of goal with 4 saves in tonight's senior's stellar performance. The Blue Devils only had 2 fouls than Concordia's 9 fouls, while the Blue Devils were outperformed in corners as Concordia led the evening with 10 compared to Lawrence Tech's 1. Concordia took 14 shots on the evening while Lawrence Tech took 7. DiOnna Hill had 2 assist on the game, and both Jenny Dear and Jessie Koje scored to continue their streaks of scoring this fall.
Up next for the Blue Devils is a small hiatus from the pitch. The Blue Devils will focus on the upcoming end to the semester alongside getting healthy and preparing for the spring season. The Blue Devils will open their spring season against UNOH in late February.
