Rochester Hills, Mich. - A new look Lawrence Tech Women's Volleyball coming off a season ago that saw success across the board, came into their first match of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) season looking to build off the success of last season. However, a feisty Rochester team had a different thought in mind going into the game looking to pull off the upset over the Blue Devils. That was far from the case though as the Blue Devils and the Warriors went back and forth in the first two sets (25-22, 18-25). The Blue Devils then ran away with the match from the third set on winning (25-19, 25-22), pulling off the 3-1 victory Wednesday, October 7th inside Garth Pleasent Arena on the campus of Rochester University. 

Unfortunately, an untimely injury to a key member of the Blue Devils had Coach Ruhl looking to other members of the team to step up in their absence. That was evident on Wednesday, with Senior Isabella McDonald and Freshman Riley O'Connell leading the team in kills with twelve apiece, alongside McDonald's team-high 48 total attempts and O'Connell's 32 respectively. The Blue Devils, during the fourth set, saw their attack percentage rise from .143 in the third set to .278 in the final set of the game. Sophomore Madeline Hudson had seven kills alongside Freshman Nicole Whan's team-high assist with ten. An all-around team effort to close out the fourth set and grab the victory for the Blue Devils (1-0) was evident as it took everything to keep the Warriors of Rochester at bay.

The Blue Devils look to continue the success they saw Wednesday night against Rochester this Saturday as they are slated to take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech at home. This marks the Blue Devils' first home match of the season. Game time is slated for Saturday, October 10th at 2 pm inside the Don Ridler Fieldhouse. As a reminder, there is a no spectator policy in effect for all home games at Lawrence Tech currently.
