Blue Devils fall in game one of weekend series against UM-Dearborn

Box Score

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. The Lawrence Tech ACHA D1 hockey team hit the road down the Southfield Freeway to take on conference rival and foe UM-Dearborn in game one of their three-game weekend series. The result didn't favor the Blue Devils, however, who fell to the tune of 1-5 in Dearborn dropping game one in the weekend series.

The Blue Devils of Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University looked to bounce back this week in their push of the ACHA D1 playoffs after a tough weekend series against Aquinas last weekend. It was all but the case for the Blue Devils tonight as their offensive woes continued as they struggled to find the back of the net once again, only scoring once over the course of three periods.

The first period got underway quickly; unfortunately, though, it was the Wolverines of UM-Dearborn hitting their stride first, finding the back of the net 0:37 seconds into the game, making it 1-0. The Wolverines would go on to score again this time at the 14:15 mark of the first period putting the puck in the back of the net for the second time, making it 2-0. The Blue Devils still looking to put it together on the ice was down 2-0 early to the 6th ranked Wolverines as the period came to an end.

As the second period got underway and the pre-game jitters are gone, it was time for the Blue Devils to put one in the back of the net and make it a one-score game. That was all but the case as the 05:00 minute mark came ahead, and the Wolverines once again put one in the back of the net, making it 3-0 early. However, the Blue Devils finally found an answer for the onslaught of goals by the Wolverines at the 12:15 mark of the second period off a power-play opportunity. Coming by way of the sophomore Seattle, Washington native Sean Pilet off the assist from Alex Schluter, and Patrick McGown. The Blue Devils had finally scored and made it 3-1 still in favor of the Wolverines. That would be the final goal scored in the second period as the Blue Devils headed back into the locker even down by two, but finding a way to score against this squad would be half the battle tonight.

With the third period underway, the Blue Devils would need to score quickly and often to pull off the upset in Dearborn tonight. It was all but the case as the Wolverines would score two more times with the first goal coming at the 09:17 mark going up 4-1. The Wolverines would score again in the third period for the final time of the night, solidifying their win at home at the 11:48 mark of the third period making it 5-1. The Blue Devils had no counter to the Wolverines onslaught of goals tonight. The Blue Devils have given up in their past three games a total of 18 goals while only scoring 5 times in that entire span.

The Blue Devils look to bounce back on Senior Night, on Friday, February 7, 2020, with Hockey Night in Farmington returns to the Farmington Hills Ice Arena. This year the Blue Devils will honor three seniors before the game that's slated for a 5:45 pm start.
