Box Score Southfield, MI – The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team took on the Indiana Institute of Technology Warriors in a battle of WHAC teams.
It was Senior Day for the Blue Devils. They honored their nine seniors Renee Anderson, Rebecca Almandoz, Rebekah Holbrook, Madison Bologna, Lauren Wasiak, Lindsey Schupbach, Allexus Barnes, Madison Turley, and Laura Silverman before the match.
The game started off with Schupbach and Anderson, both seniors who are out for the season due to injury in the starting lineup, with Indiana Tech kicking the ball out of bounds and Lawrence Tech making subs and giving the ball back to the Warriors.
The action was slow in the first five minutes, as only one shot was taken.
The first goal was scored by Wasiak on a penalty kick – her third goal on the year — to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils continued to be aggressive, spending a lot of time in their offensive zone, taking a lot of shots.
The 17th minute produced a Jenny Dear goal prepared by Jaiden Konrad and set up by Wasiak, the Blue Devils take an early 2-0 lead.
The rest of the first half was Lawrence Tech keeping possession and keeping IT at bay.
In the second half, it was more of the same.
The Blue Devils controlled possession for much of the second half.
In the 55th minute, a Konrad header reaches the back of the net, off a Bologna corner kick to extend the LTU lead to three.
In the 80th minute, Coach Richards made a mass sub to get all his seniors, excluding Almandoz and the injured Schupbach and Anderson, one last run at home.
Wasiak scored her second goal of the match, assisted by Ayla Ebaugh to bring LTU's lead to four in the waning minutes.
Renee Anderson started in net. Rebecca Almandoz (2-6-2) recorded the victory, picking up 3 saves in 78 minutes. Madison Turley played 10 minutes in relief.
The Blue Devils (7-7-3; 4-4-2) clinched the 7-seed in the WHAC Tournament and will square off with 2-seeded Madonna on the road for a 2 pm kickoff.
