Box Score Lima, Ohio – The 3-seeded (RV) Lawrence Technological University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw in double overtime before falling in penalty kicks 4-3 to the 2-seeded (RV) University of Northwestern Ohio Racers in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Devils got on the attack early as Juan Jaramillo put one on frame in the fourth minute but was turned away by the Racers goalkeeper, leading to a corner kick. Off the corner, Alvaro Merino fired one high over the crossbar as Lawrence Tech threatened early.
The Racers were unable to muster any shots on their first three corner kick opportunities before missing wide right off a header on their fourth corner kick of the half in the 42nd minute.
The Blue Devils successfully defended one more corner right before the break as UNOH held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks while Lawrence Tech led in the shots column, 3-2, after 45 minutes of play.
In the 60th minute, UNOH almost broke through as their shot hit the crossbar before Merino had another opportunity in the 64th minute but this time missed wide left on his header attempt.
In the 79th minute, Lawrence Tech goalkeeper Marko Matovski came up with a big save but the Racers goalkeeper matched him with a save of his own on Alex Fernandez, five minutes later in the 83rd minute, before Adrian Miling missed wide right to give possession back to UNOH.
The Racers looked for the game-winner in the waning minutes of regulation but their shot attempt off a corner was blocked and the teams headed to extra time tied at 0-0 as UNOH outshot LTU 12-5 in the first 90 minutes of action.
Only one shot was mustered by either team in the first overtime session, as the Racers missed wide right in the 92nd minute.
It was a similar story in the second overtime until the 110th minute when a Merino shot from the left side of the 18' hit off the crossbar on the top left side of the frame as the match would be decided by penalty kicks.

Lawrence Tech will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the 2021 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship during the selection show on Monday, November 15th at 1 pm eastern.
