Men's Soccer Advances to WHAC Semifinals

Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University men's soccer team opened up the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinals against the University of Michigan Dearborn at home. LTU got on the board early in this one and carried the momentum the whole game putting up five goals in their win. The final score in this match was 5-1. 

Less than a minute into the game, Alvaro Merino found a hole taking on the goalkeeper 1-on-1 when he nutmegged the goalie to find the back of the net. Skander Larfaoui and Reece Still were awarded the assist. This was Merino's fifth goal of the year. 

Not much action in the next 35 minutes of play, but in the 37th minute forward Adrian Miling saw a cross into the box that was deflected to beat the goalie at the top of the net. 

LTU would enter the half up 2-0

In the 58th minute of play, Ty Cerget blasted a shot that was blocked but ended up taking a big bounce that went over the hands of the goalkeeper awarded him the goal to extend the Blue Devil lead to three.

UMD was finally able to get on the board in the 80th minute when Xavier Walser scored his first goal of the season.

The offense wouldn't stop though from LTU as a corner kick found the head of Gonzalo Sanz and deflected off the right heel of Miling for the goal. Sanz with the assist. Miling leads the Blue Devils in goals this year with eight.

In the last minute of play, tensions rose as UMD's season was on the line, but a nice pass from Matthew Sherman found the right foot of teammate Alex Fernandez when he chipped the ball over the head of the keeper scoring his fourth goal of the season.

The final score was 5-1 LTU on top.

The Blue Devils shot the ball a total of 12 times, nine on the net, with five assists.

Goalkeeper, Marko Matovski respectively earned his fifth win of the season only recording two saves in this one.

The 3-seeded Blue Devils' next match is on Wednesday, November 10th when they travel to Lima, OH to play the 2-seeded University of Northwestern Ohio at 2 PM.
