Indoor Track & Field Competes in WHAC Indoor Championships

Grand Rapids, MI - The Lawrence Tech Men's & Women's Track and Field Team traveled all the way to the west side of the state to Grand Rapids, MI at Aquinas College to compete in the Indoor WHAC Championships this weekend. Talking to Coach Fermon earlier this week, he talked about how he felt confident in some of his athletes going into the weekend as they could finish pretty high in the rankings to close out conference play. 

In the Women's 1 Mile Run, Sophomore Darbey Johnson finished with an impressive time of 5:26.10 giving her a 3rd finish!! Following the Women 1 Mile Run, and Sophomore Nolan McGahan finished in 9th place with a final time of 4:48.85. The Women's 5000 Meter Run had one LTU runner, Junior Hailey Catania which she placed 11th with a final time of 20:25.89. The very next event was the Men's 5000 Meter Run, and the Blue Devils had two runners competing in this one. Freshman Nathan Alton and Jack Gray. Alton finished with a time of 17:33.01 coming in 10th place and Gray finished with a time of 18:37.58 coming in 11th place. Freshman, Jackie Albo, was a participant in the Women's 400 Meter Dash, and she finished with a final time of 1:08.12. The next event was the Men 800 Meter Run, which Jawanna Morris finished with a time of 2:14.53 giving him a finish in 8th place. Following the Men's 800 Meter Run was the Women's 1000 Meter Run, where two LTU runners were competing in. Kaitlin Pickart finished with a time of 3:25.16 and Erin Mccardell finished with a time of 3:42.11. Hunter Richards also competed in the Men's 1000 Meter Run, where he placed 6th with a final time of 2:44.53. Freshman, Noah Rodriquez, competed in the Men's 3000 Meter Run and his final time in this event was 10:32.33, finishing in 25th place in that event. Lawrence Tech's best finish on the weekend came when the women ran in the Women's Distance Medley, finishing with an impressive time of 13:57.90 where they finished in 1st place!! All of these young men and women have bright futures here at LTU and will look to build on these performances in the next couple of years. 

Your Lawrence Tech Women's Team finished in 7th place with a team score of 10 and the Men finished in 9th place with a team score of 4.

Help us congraulate these men and women in competing in the WHAC Indoor Championships! We are now approaching the month of March and that means Indoor Track and Field Nationals are coming. The first weekend of March (4-6th) will begin the 56th Annual NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championships and the 41st Annual NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championships. We wish all LTU athletes good luck as they will travel to Madison, South Dakota where Dakota State University will host this event. The National Championships will begin at 8 AM EST.
