Box Score FT. WAYNE, Ind.- The division one men's hockey program hit the ice for the first in over 200 days from the last time they played. In part COVID-19 restrictions with contact sports and other health-related concerns over the first semester kept the Blue Devils from playing until February of 2021. The Blue Devils headed to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Friday, Feb. 5th, to take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech in what has become quite the rivalry between the two teams. The result was an upset victory over the Warriors 3-2 to take game one of the weekend series.
Overall, it was back and forth on shots between the two teams at the beginning of the game until the second period, with the Warriors outshooting the Blue Devils 19-2. The Warriors had 39 total shots compared to the 18 total shots by the Blue Devils. Neither team could successfully execute on powerplays Friday, not with the Blue Devils going 0-3. The Blue Devils logged 16 penalty minutes Friday night with a total of 8 infractions.
Lawrence Tech scored the first goal of the evening at the 19:43 mark of the first period by way of Bryce Ebert, with the assist coming from Patrick McGowan and Adam Rebecca. Goal number two for the Blue Devils came in the third period at the 8:10 mark from Thimo Ey, with the assist coming from Alec Allen. The game-winning goal in overtime came at the 2:02 mark from Brenden Preiss, with the assist coming from Thimo Ey and Alec Allen.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils take on Indiana Tech in Game Two of the series in Farmington Hills for their home opener. Puck Drop's slated for 9:30 pm at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
