Women's Volleyball Loses in Straight Sets

Southfield, MI – The Lawrence Tech Women's Volleyball team was at home for the fourth straight game on Saturday. It was a battle between Lawrence Tech and the top team in the conference, (RV) Aquinas College Saints. LTU put up a fight in the first set, as they were able to hold the lead for majority of the first set, but Aquinas came back to win the first set 23-25. From there, they controlled the pace of the game all afternoon. The Saints were able to snag the next two sets to seal the victory. The scores in the 2nd and 3rd sets were 16-25, 20-25. Senior, Outside Hitter, and a huge piece to LTU's identity did not play due to a dislocated finger on her left hand.

Leading the team in total kills was Riley O'Connell with 10, and Isabella McDonald was able to record 9 kills on the afternoon. Madeline Hudson had 8 kills. LTU's leader in kill percentage for the match was Nicole Whan who finished the game with .500 percentage. Reinali Calisin tied the teams leading kill percentage, providing a score of .500 as well. Even though, the team could not find a rhythm in this game, Defensively, Nichole Hyduk was outstanding on the afternoon giving her team 18 digs for the match. She was the only team member to record double digit kills. Once again for the fifth straight game in a row the duo, Nicole Whan and Gneiss Aramburu set their teammates up with many nice assists. Whan finished the game with 12. Aramburu finished the game with 9 assists. The leaders on the night for the Blue Devils in total points were O'Connell with 10.0 total points and McDonald with 9.0 points. The team's total attacks in this match was 114. Team total in kills were 33 and the team's total assists were 24. LTU has 3 serve aces along with 52 total digs.

The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (5-8) next match will be Tuesday, March 16th at home where the team will battle against Rochester College inside the Don Ridler Fieldhouse. The last time these two teams matched up against each other was back in October, and LTU was able to pull off that win. The team will be looking to go into this match to sweep the season series. The match will begin at 7 PM.
