BASEBALL SPLITS AGAINST CORNERSTONE SATURDAY

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Baseball headed to the west end of the state for what was supposed to be a packed weekend of WHAC baseball against Cornerstone and fellow Grand Rapids foe Aquinas. The Blue Devils ended up splitting the Cornerstone series 1-1. The Blue Devils took game one in 10 innings 6-5, while the Golden Eagles took game two 6-1.

Game One :

Alek Wietrzykowski got the nod for game one going 5 2/3 innings, giving up 11 hits, on 5 runs, with 5 earned, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Kent Madak would come in relief, going 2 1/3 innings, collecting 3 strikeouts. Jacob Pershern was called on to grab the save for the Blue Devils, going 1 inning and walking 2 on his way to earning the save. Jacob Llaneza sent one beyond the outfield fence for the lone home run by the Blue Devils. Meanwhile, Kellen Banaszewski grabbed a double and RBI alongside Sean Fannon and Kellen Harding. Llaneza had 3 RBI's on the afternoon.

Game Two :

Game two was a different story for the Blue Devils, who only collected one run in the fifth inning on five hits. Jay Gallant was on the bump for game two going 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, 6 runs, and 6 earned. At the same time, walking 6 and striking out 7 alongside giving up 2 home runs. Sam DeKuiper came into the game in relief, going one inning and striking out 1 batter. The lone run by the Blue Devils was scored by Nick Post off a balk.

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will face off against WHAC foe Aquinas College in Grand Rapids on Sunday afternoon first pitch slated for 1 pm.
