BASEBALL DROPS PAIR TO UM-DEARBORN SATURDAY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

UTICA, Mich.- The Lawrence Tech baseball team was back in action for the first time in over a month in front of a soldout crowd at Jimmy Johns Field to welcome them back to the ballpark. The result wasn't what the Blue Devils were looking for, dropping both games to the Wolverines. Game 1, the final was 9-7, and Game 2 15-5.

Game 1 |

In Saturday's first game of the doubleheader between the Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines and the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech, the scoring started back and forth as the Wolverines scored first in the second inning before trading a pair of runs in the third and fourth, respectively. Freshman Jacob Llaneza homered to left field to tie the game at 3 apiece after 4 innings. Starter Ben Schmidt, who took the loss, had kept the game in the balance through 4 innings. In the fifth inning, his charm ran out, allowing 4 of the 5 runs that crossed in the fifth before being relieved. The Wolverines tacked on another run on Antonio Carta's home run to left to push their lead to 6--a lead too big for the Blue Devils to overcome. Lawrence Tech did, however, make it close in the end scoring 2 in the eighth and 2 in the ninth, and had the tying run up to bat when they were turned away.

Game 2 |

In the finale of Saturday's doubleheader between Michigan-Dearborn and Lawrence Tech, the Wolverines had multiple innings scoring multiple runs. This spelled doom early for the Blue Devils, as they trailed by 4 runs before even seeing their first pitch of the afternoon. While the pitching wasn't great (allowing 8 walks), it was the defense that made it even tougher to compete, as Lawrence Tech committed 5 errors, not to mention the wild pitches and passed balls to top it off. Offensively, there were bright spots, as left fielder Nick Olsen went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, while right fielder Sam DeKuiper and catcher Jason Erhardt each went 1-for-3 with 2 runs batted in each. The game ended in 7-inning mercy, with the Wolverines victorious, 15-5.

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will take on the Grey Wolves of Lourdes University on day 2 of the three-day homestand. The Blue Devils will also be celebrating Senior Day of Adam Mansfield, Collin Vandergroden, and Eddie Dopkowski.
