Box Score Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team kicked off their season at Blue Devil Stadium on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the Red Wolves of Indiana University East.
Throughout the first half, there was a lot of back and forth play, but no goals were tallied. Each team managed four shots apiece, but only two of them were on goal.
The scoring drought continued, until the 70th minute, when Paris Rettig's corner kick led to a nice header assist for Dahlia Jerovsek, setting up DiOnna Hill for the Blue Devils first goal of the season. The Blue Devils would tack on another goal in the 73rd minute when Jaiden Konrad's point blank shot was rebounded to Hill, who sent it right back to Konrad to give Lawrence Tech a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Red Wolves would not go away, however, scoring their first goal of the day off a free kick as a loose ball in the box was put in the net to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
Indiana University East threatened to tie the match on a few occasions in the waning minutes, but the Blue Devils' defense shut the door to cap off a 2-1 win.
The Blue Devils outshot the Red Wolves 12-11 and eight to six in shots on goal.
Sydney Schnurstein made five saves in the second half to earn the win.
The women's soccer team's next match is Wednesday, September 1st, when they host the Scots of Alma College at Blue Devil Stadium at 7pm.
