Men's Hoops Falls in Double Overtime on the Road

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University men's basketball team played against Concordia University on the road Wednesday night. After both teams were tied at the end of regulation, they battled for another 10 minutes of action that ended in double overtime with the Cardinals coming out on top by a final score of 85-78.

Brandon Beavers led all scorers with 30 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Gunnar Gustafson pitched in 17 points of his own and snagged seven rebounds. Andrew Rinn came off the bench to pitch in 13 points and eight rebounds.

LTU started the game off on a 5-0 run from a Gustafson layup and Beavers corner three-ball.

At the 12:01 mark, Blake Lund nailed a three-pointer to make it 17-8.

Gustafson followed up Lund's three with a layup. Carter Frantz added his first points of the game from a three to extend the teams' lead to 22-10.

Matt Lockhart made it 22-12 for CUAA.

Giving the Blue Devils their biggest lead of the first half was Gustafson's turnaround hook shot, and Frantz's triple, extending their lead to 27-12 with under eight remaining.

The Cardinals climbed back in the game from a couple of baskets by Jayden Priddy and Deyvn Jones to cut the lead to eight points.

At the end of the first half, LTU was leading 31-25.

The team shot the ball 12-of-28 (42.9%) from the field, 5-of-14 (35.7%) from three, and 2-of-6 (33.3%) from the line.

After two minutes into the second half, the lead was cut to 33-31 from a Lockhart triple.

With 13:38 left in the half, CUAA took their first lead of the game after two free throws by Colton Ritsema to make it 36-35.

Beavers was able to knock down a huge three to put the team back up three at the seven-minute mark.

Minutes later, Beavers got a steal that led to a dunk in transition to make it 54-51.

With 5:10 to play in regulation, Isaiah Cumberland and Beavers knocked down back-to-back threes to give their team a four-point lead.

Jones tied things up at 60 apiece with a minute and a half to go.

A Beavers' made layup gave the Blue Devils a 62-60 lead.

Jones's basket on the next possession knotted things up at 62 to take both teams to another five minutes of play.

Gustafson gave LTU some momentum early in the first overtime after a dunk to put them up three.

Back-to-back buckets from Ritsema and Lockhart cut the deficit to 71-70 with 2:05 left.

Seconds later Ritsema made 1-of-2 at the line to send both teams to a second overtime.

CUAA jumped out to an early three-point lead after a Jayden Priddy three-pointer.

At the 2:32 mark, Beavers drew an and-1 to keep the deficit to three at 79-76.

Gustafson's slam made with 1:53 kept LTU within one possession, 81-78.

In the last two minutes of action, LTU could not convert on the offensive end and was forced to foul. The final score in this game was 85-78.

The team shot the ball 28-of-69 (40.6%) from the field, 10-of-30 (33.3%) from deep, and 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the line.

The next Blue Devils matchup is on Saturday, January 22nd when they play Lourdes University on the road. This game will tip-off at 3 PM.
