#24 LTU D1 Splits Weekend Series Versus Oswego State

Oswego, NY – The #24 Lawrence Technological University ACHA D1 men's hockey team played a weekend series against Oswego State University. Game one on Saturday was a back and forth shootout resulting in a Blue Devils' victory by a final score of 6-5. Game two on Sunday was also high scoring, but Oswego State pulled away by a final score of 5-3. 

How It Happened – Saturday 1/22

  • LTU went down shorthanded just two and half minutes after the puck dropped. OSU capitalized on a power-play goal from Carter McWilliams.
  • Five minutes later, the Lakers expanded their lead to 2-0.
  • John Horn scored his 16th goal of the season in the 17th minute to make it 2-1 before the intermission. Sean Pilet and Thimo Ey were awarded the assist.
  • LTU caught fire in the second period scoring two goals in a three-minute span. Patrick Mcgowan put the puck past the goalie at the 12:14 mark that came from Jack Lebar.
  • Scoring his second goal of the game was Horn, five minutes before intermission to put the team up 3-2. Assisted by Alec Allen and Thomas Walsh.
  • A total of six goals were scored in the third period alone.
  • LTU's James Jentz started things off from an unassisted goal three minutes into play, extending the lead to 4-2
  • The Lakers answered back by netting two goals in the next two minutes of play to tie the game back up.
  • The Blue Devils wouldn't settle as they regained the lead back from goals by Walsh (unassisted) and Ethan Grover (assisted by Jentz & Allen).
  • Oswego State capitalized on a late goal in the third period, but it was not enough to win. LTU won this game 6-5.

How It Happened – Sunday 1/23

  • Garrett Sample led things off for LTU in the first period less than five minutes into play. Assisted by Brenden Preiss and Patrick McGowan.
  • At the 13:36 mark, the Lakers scored a power-play goal to knot things up at 1-1.
  • LTU's Erik Engdahl was able to connect on an unassisted goal giving the team the lead back.
  • Another power-play goal from OSU came late in the first as both teams headed into the intermission tied at two.
  • Midway through the second period, McWilliams snuck the puck past the goalie to give Oswego State the lead back 3-2.
  • Horn capitalized on an unassisted goal minutes later. Both teams entered the locker room tied at three.
  • The Lakers were the only team to find the back of the net in the last period from goals by Chase Nies and Andrew Cardi.
  • OSU won this game 5-3.

The #24 Blue Devils are back inside the Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Friday, January 28th for a weekend series against Cleary University. The puck will drop at 5 PM.
