Blue Devils Fall in Four to Cougars

Mount Vernon, Ohio – The Lawrence Technological University men's volleyball team won the first set on the road but ultimately dropped the next three on their way to falling to the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars (25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 17-25) in a WHAC match on Friday night.

First Set:

  • Back-to-back Felix Perez kills put LTU up 11-8
  • Connor Cooper ends a 4-0 LTU run with a kill to make it 20-17
  • The Cougars take 6-of-9 to knot set at 23-23
  • Jeffry Fuhrmann kill followed by MVNU error gives opening set to LTU 25-23

Second Set:

  • Cougars jump out to 12-4 lead to force Blue Devils' timeout
  • LTU responds with a 15-7 run to tie set at 19-19
  • MVNU wins 5-of-6 to make it set point, 24-20
  • Perez finish holds off Cougars for one more serve but MVNU kill ends set 25-22

Third Set:

  • JT McCarthy kill gives LTU a slim 13-12 advantage in back and forth action
  • After MNVU opens up a three-point margin, Zach Narkiewicz kill cuts it to 22-20
  • Cougars' attack errors trim margin to one, 23-22, but MVNU closes set with two kills

Fourth Set:

  • Perez service ace puts Blue Devils up 12-10
  • 10-4 Cougars' run takes back the lead for MVNU at 21-16
  • Simon Phillip sets up McCarthy to pause the momentum, but three straight attack errors plagued LTU as it drops the set 25-17
