Esports Goes 5-1 In Team Matches This Week

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils Esports team had all of heir active teams compete this week. Here's a recap on how their week went:

Tuesday, Oct 11th, 2022
Overwatch 2 (NACE) - Win 3-0 Keiser University - Pembroke Pines 

This team is composed of mostly returners but there are a couple newcomers - Eric Zayler, Zachary Lundy, Jon Zureki, Hasan Atesh, Sebastian Higgs, and Nicole Balek. They have worked very hard to improve from last year, while focusing on their coordination and executing strategies. Overwatch 2 was released on October 4th and all of esports has had to quickly pivote into learning the nuisance of a new version of the game. LTU Overwatch team was able to capture their season debut victory over KUPP. Eric Zayler (Day) was able to take out 5 with a 360 dragon rounding out the streak with nabbing their Ana from spawn. Zachary Lundy was also able to grab a 5 streak kill and ultimately helped us obtain the win.   

Thursday, Oct 13th, 2022

Call of Duty (NACE) 12pm Reschedule by UM Flint - Win 3-0

This week LTU COD faced off against UM-Flint COD. On Bocage hardpoint (the first map) LTU took the win 250-195. With some insane plays from the newcomer, Cody Doran (YoungGod) getting a couple of quad feeds to help close out map 1. In the second map Berlin search and destroy where LTU won 6-1, Michael Testani Jr (OG BUMSTAR) started off strong in the first round with a triple kill on UM-Flint. Jacob Heyer (DrPlauge) also came out swinging too, getting multiple double kills on the opponent in a majority of the rounds. In the third map Tuscan control where LTU won 3-0, Codi McPeek (voidscvrlxt) came out in force by wrapping around the enemy team and helping LTU secure the first round by getting double and triple kills to help deplete and keep the enemies off the point. LTU won the best of 5 against UM-Flint 3-0.

Overwatch 2 (NACE) - Win 3-0 v West Texas A&M 

In the second match of the season for Lawrence Tech's Overwatch team, LTU won 3-0 putting their overall record at 2-0. Going against West Texas A&M University, the players for LTU faced strong competition but were ultimately able to secure the victory after a tumultuous beginning in the first map. Nicole Balek (DarkestZelda) made her collegiate debut and played an instrumental role of support for the team. Heading into the next week of competition, LTU will face Randolph-Macon College as well as the University of Cincinnati.

Smash Bros (NACE) - Win 2-0 v UM Flint  

This week on NACE, LTU Smash really brought their all in a clean 2-0 sweep against U of M Flint. It's all thanks to our two starter players for this week: Lazarus Kmet (ThiefOfVoid) & Ross Lewerwnz (BuRr) Round 1 started off pretty evenly, then BuRr was up to bat with his Ness and took 8/12 stocks. Round 2 was when ThiefOfVoid brought the thunder, taking 10/12 of Flint's stocks with BuRr cleaning up the remaining 2. Another win for LTU Smash in the books!

Rocket League (WHAC) - Win 3-1 vs Cleary 8:30p & Win 3-0 Concordia 9:00p 
 
Josh Breznik (Braave) added 20 saves to make 78 on the season this far. Which is enough to lead WHAC so far this season. Ronnie Wood (Woody_RL24) was able to add 7 goals to his season total of 34 which is good for 6th place in WHAC. Trevor Miller (TranzReckless) continues to drive the offense with 17 shots for a season total of 100 which ties him for 5th place in WHAC.

Rainbow 6 (NACE) 9:30p - Loss 0-2 

LTU took on IVC resulting in an unfortunate loss. Major plays by Trevor Miller (TranzReckless) with his excellent use of character tools and abilities to surprise members of IVC resulted in numerous eliminations. Jacob Heyer (DrPlague) was LTU's top scoring player in Game 1 through repeated well timed eliminations.
Trevor and Jake ended a round on defense coming from behind in a 2 Vs 3 situation to win with a Bomb Defuse. 

Friday, Oct 14th, 2022

The Smash team kicked off their 2022-2023 biweekly smash tournament, this event is open to anyone who wants to visit the esports room or have some friendly competition. It's held in the esports room every other week (General services building 17 1st floor). The next one will be October 28th, doors open at 6:30p and competition starts at 7p. 

Saturday, Oct 15th, 2022 

Chess - There are about 500 students competing every Saturday in the NACE Starleague competition. They play 6 games in a Swiss-style tournament every Saturday. William Shall won 3 of his 6 games and Andrew Horvath won 1 game out of 6 games.
