Esports Goes 7-2 This Week

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils Esports team had 6 teams compete this week. Here's a recap on how their week went

Call of Duty:

This week LTU COD took on Ashland University (AU) COD. Against AU, LTU could not seem to get the ball rolling in their favor and ended up losing 1-3. However, even in their defeat LTU COD was able to show what they were made of in Search & Destroy which they won 6-5. There were big plays from Michael Testani Jr (OG BUMSTAR) and Cody Doran (YoungGod) who helped clutch multiple rounds in order to keep LTU in the game. LTU COD now sits 2-4 in the regular season sitting in 6th place overall. The face off against Central Penn College pm Wednesday, they are looking to close out their season with another victory.

Chess:

William Shall and Andrew Horvath competed on Saturday both winning 3 games out of their 6. Playoffs are officially underway and they will continue to play for the month of November against 500 other NACE students.

League of Legends:

Game 1 started out slow with LTU playing concisely. Marc Duckworth (DaSpanishProdigy) was able to effectively able to play around Mike Xiong (Msap), getting a strong lead in the mid game that LTU was able to use to start the series 1-0.

LTU was not able to maintain the momentum in game 2. Despite their best efforts, they fell, bringing the series to 1-1 and a final third game to decide it all.

Despite the loss, LTU was able to remain strong, once again playing concisely through the early game. By cleanly controlling neutral objectives and picking their fights, the team was able to control the course of the game, and ended the series 2-1.

With the win, Lawrence Tech is going into the GGLeagues League of Legends playoffs as the first seed in their group.

Overwatch:

This week, LTU's Overwatch team went head-to-head against Kansas Wesleyan University and Desales University taking the two series 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Freshman Sebastian Brown (Higgs) stand out performance in the overall season shined this week with his ability to adapt to Overwatch's newest hero Kiriko in such a short amount of time. In the overall season, LTU now stands 6-0 and is scheduled to face the only other undefeated team in their division, Ferris State University, this Tuesday.

Rocket League:

NACE 3-1 win with freshman Christopher Mackenzie, who filled in. Mackenzie played two different esports titles this week and is an extremely versatile player for LTU esports. He helped the team capture a victorious series and they will be facing off in a double header against Kennesaw State and Messiah University.

WHAC: LTU was able to sweep Indiana Tech in dominating fashion and completed a series sweep. LTU had a double header and was able to follow up with a second sweep against Aquinas. The offense was on point tonight as LTU managed to rack up 27 goals while Trevor Miller (TranzReckless) led the way with 11 goals. LTU only let in 6 goals a defensive effort led by TranzReckless with 9 saves. A great double header as they look to continue our momentum into the final WHAC regular season game this week against Siena Heights.

Rainbow 6 Siege:
LTU took on MSUS in a late night showdown, resulting in an unfortunate loss.
Coming out of the gate strong, LTU managed to put MSUS on the back foot with aggressive plays by Trevor Miller (TranzReckless), Cole Smith (MrTibbs), and Christopher Mackenzie (Iapologize) that resulted in swift multi-eliminations of MSUS players.
Ultimately ending on a score of 4-14, LTU heads toward the end of the season with renewed spirits.
