Box Score 2 Shreveport, La. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils baseball team traveled to participate in the Cajun Collision tournament to open their season. They beat Jarvis Christian 18-5 in 7 innings and lost to Louisiana Christian 3-2.
Game 1 vs. Jarvis Christian:
- Jay Gallant got the start for the Blue Devils, he lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks, recording one strikeout
- Gallant allowed two runs in the first on a bases-loaded double by Zach Holder
- The Blue Devils answered back in the first when Nick Olsen doubled in both Luke Morrissette and Nick Post
- Jackson Walkowiak scored Olsen to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the early season
- Alexis Bobyn scored Yan Otero to knot the game at three in the second inning
- Olsen comes up clutch again, scoring Jake Llaneza, reclaiming the Blue Devils' lead
- Gallant walked Sean Rodriguez to tie the score at four
- Kent Madak slammed the door shut, getting Otero to pop up to first with the bases juiced to end the third inning
- The Blue Devils plated five runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Sam DeKuiper, double from Post that scored two, and Morrissette RBI double followed by his own heads up baserunning
- Two wild pitches scored two runs for LTU in the fourth, extending the lead to 11-4 after four
- Otero cut into the lead with an RBI double in the fifth, the only run Madak allowed in relief
- Two homers in the fifth, a solo shot by Olsen and a grand slam by Trent Matthews, gave Lawrence Tech a 16-5 lead
- Matthews bases-loaded walk in the sixth scored the 17th LTU run before a wild pitch plated the 18th run
- Jarvis Christian went quietly in the seventh inning, ending the game
- Madak was credited with the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, striking out six in relief
Game 2 vs Lousiana Christian:
- Ben Schmidt took the bump for the Blue Devils, lasting six innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on six hits and a walk, tallying eight strikeouts
- The scoring started in the seventh inning when Kellen Banaszewski plated Matthews
- Harry Storch scored on a wild pitch, giving the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead looking to close out the game
- Nick Brunet doubled in Dylan David to cut the deficit in half
- A Ty Morgan single, aptly, tied the game, scoring Brunet
- Matt Olson came in and struck out two batters before surrendering the walk-off hit to Adrian Aguilar, scoring Nicolas Ramos
- Schmidt was tagged with the loss
The Blue Devils (1-1) return to action on Saturday, February 12 for two games, taking on #3 Southeastern and #10 LSU Shreveport, at 2 pm and 5 pm respectively.
