Southfield, Mich - The Lawrence Technological University men's basketball team hosted Aquinas College on Wednesday night. Both teams came into tonight's game battling for the sixth spot in the conference standings. LTU would enter the locker room up four at the break, but struggled to shoot the ball in the second half. AQ won this game by a final score of 70-59.

Brandon Beavers led LTU in scoring with 21 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Gunnar Gustafson ended with a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Blake Lund added nine points off the bench. Gabe Overway led Aquinas with 22 points.

Gustafson led things off with a bucket under the basket.

Two layups by Gustafson and a Beavers three-ball made it 12-9 with 15:45 in the first half.

The Saints jumped on a 9-0 run midway through the half to extend their lead to 20-14 which led to an LTU timeout.

Gustafson slammed home a dunk to end Aquinas' run out of the timeout.

Minutes later, Andrew Rinn's And-1, Beavers two layups, and an Alek Ivanovic triple started a Blue Devils 8-0 run. 

With 2:42 remaining, Lund stuck a three-pointer to give LTU the lead by one.

LTU would end the half on a 7-0 run to enter the locker room up 37-33.

The team shot the ball 14-of-32 (43.8%) from the field, 5-of-14 (35.7%) from behind the arc, and 4-of-4 (100.0%) from the line.

In the opening minutes of the second half, both teams traded buckets.

At the 15:58 mark, Jaylen Rutherford tied things up at 43 after his made jump shot.

Rutherford's basket started a Saints 7-0 run to extend their lead to 50-43.

Ivanovic's triple ended the run.

Only two baskets were scored in the next five minutes of action. AQ was leading 52-47 with eight minutes to play.

Beavers' pocket pass to Gustafson led to a dunk to cut the lead back to three.

Overway and Sammie Ryans made it 58-51 with 5:21 left.

The Blue Devils struggled to shoot the ball down the stretch and could not buy any stops falling short to Aquinas by a final score of 70-59.

The team shot the ball 22-of-58 (37.9%) from the field, 7-of-26 (26.9%) from deep, and 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the line.

The next Blue Devils matchup is on Monday night, February 14th at Cornerstone University. This game will tip-off at 7:30 PM.
