Detroit, MI - The Lawrence Technological University softball team played a doubleheader at home against Cornerstone University on Friday evening. The Blue Devils struggled to get the bats going on the day as they would drop both games. Game one ended in a final score of 5-4 and the team lost game two 15-3.

How It Happened: LTU 4, CU 5 (Game 1)

• The Golden Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
• LTU left three runners on in the bottom half of the first with no runs.
• In the bottom of the third, the Blue Devils stranded two more runners as they went into the fourth down 2-0.
• A leadoff homer by Wilson extended the lead to three for Cornerstone.
• LTU went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings off two hits.
• In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lauren Lanphear led things off with a single.
• Lily Morrissette would reach on an error, Lanphear advanced to third.
• A sacrifice RBI by Sarah Hige scored Lanphear to put LTU on the board down 5-1.
• The Blue Devils tried to rally late after a three run shot by Morrissette, but it was too late.
• LTU lost this game 5-4.

Clover Brandt got the start in game one pitching 5.0 innings. Brandt gave up five hits on five runs while striking out five batters.

How It Happened: LTU 3, CU 15 (Game 2)

• Both teams went scoreless in the first inning.
• Hige's RBI single through the left side scored Lanphear to put LTU up 1-0.
• Another RBI single by Lauren Fife brought around Morgan James.
• LTU was up 2-0 after two.
• The Golden Eagles would score six runs in the next three innings to go up 6-2.
• In the bottom of the fifth inning, a RBI single up the middle by Erin Wehler scored Callie Tatum.
• Cornerstone got hot in the final two innings scoring nine runs on seven hits.
• LTU would drop game two by a final score of 15-3.

Grace Roeske was on the bump in game two throwing 4.0 innings giving up six hits on four runs. Roeske struck out two batters. Gloriana Su'a and Brandt came in on relief and gave up eight hits on eleven runs while striking out three batters.

The next Blue Devils are back on the diamond Saturday, April 2nd at home when they take on the University of Northwestern Ohio at Detroit Country Day High School for a doubleheader. The first pitch will begin at 1 PM.
