Auburndale, Fla. - The Lawrence Technological Blue Devils baseball team traveled to Auburndale to take on the Dordt Defenders. They split the two games, winning 7-4 in the opener and losing the second game 11-9.
Game 1:
- Jeremy Flattery got the start for the Blue Devils, he pitched six innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out nine.
- Dordt jumped out ahead early when JaeYoun Kim's sac fly scored Logan Cline, giving them a 1-0 lead
- In the third, Cline hit a missile over the left field fence. DU 2, LTU 0
- Nick Olsen tripled in Luke Morrissette to cut the deficit in half
- Trent Reed dropped down a beautiful bunt for a suicide squeeze scoring Olsen to tie it at two
- Kellen Harding was hit with the bases loaded, giving the Blue Devils a 3-2 lead
- Kellen Banaszewski singled up the middle, scoring Logan Barker and Jake Llaneza.
- The Blue Devils added another in the fifth, as Jackson Walkowiak tripled in Olsen
- Reed scores Walkowiak to extend the lead to five
- Dordt would score two in the seventh before Matt Olson shut the door
- Flattery earned the win, Olson was credited with the save
Game 2:
- Kent Madak took the bump for the Blue Devils, he pitched 1+ innings, giving up five runs (all earned) on three hits and four walks, striking out one in the process
- The Blue Devils started early, scoring a couple in the first
- Morrissette doubled in Nathan Brown, followed by Olsen bringing in Morrissette in
- Dordt would score six runs in the second to take a four-run lead
- Daniel Stanley singled to score Anthony Rodriguez Klinzing. DU 7, LTU 2
- The Blue Devils would answer back in the top of the fifth, scoring five times
- Walkowiak doubled in Brown and Harry Storch. DU 7, LTU 4
- Reed singled in Walkowiak and Morrissette. DU 7, LTU 6
- Reed would score when Barker reached on an error. DU 7, LTU 7
- Dordt would reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two
- Olsen tripled in Morrissette. DU 9, LTU 8
- Dordt would score two more in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to 11-8
- Storch would hit a sac fly scoring Reed, but that would be all for the Blue Devils
- Blue Devils drop this one 11-9
- Jake Nightingale was tagged with the loss, pitching four innings, surrendering four runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out four in relief.
The Blue Devils (4-6) return to action on Wednesday, March 9 at 11am when they take on Webber International.
