Sylvania, OH - The Lawrence Technological University softball team played a doubleheader on the road against Lourdes University. The Blue Devils would drop game one by a final score of 10-2 (Final 6). A late rally in game two led to an LTU comeback to beat the Gray Wolves by a final score of 6-5.
How It Happened: Game One - LU 10, LTU 2 (Final 6)
- Lourdes jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first scoring two runs on two errors.
- LTU went three up three down in the top of the second.
- A two run second inning after a double to left field for Lourdes gave them a 4-0 lead.Â
- In the bottom of the third, Callie Tatum's two RBI double brought home Sarah Hige and Mazie Lawler.
- Richardson homered to left field in the fourth to make it 6-2.
- The Blue Devils went three up three down in the top half of the fifth.
- Lourdes scored three more runs in the bottom half after a single and an error.
- LTU could not comeback as they lost in six innings by a final of 10-2.
By The Numbers:
- Hige went 1-for-3 with one run.
- Tatum went 1-for-3 and two RBI.
- Morgan James went 1-for-3.
Clover Brandt was on the bump pitching 5.0 innings giving up six hits on nine runs. Brandt struck out five batters.
How It Happened: Game Two - LU 5, LTU 6
- The Blue Devils scored first after Lawler singled to center field to score Tatum.Â
- A three run first inning for the Gray Wolves made it 3-1.
- Both teams went three up three down in the second inning.
- In the third inning, Hige led off with a triple then scored on a passed ball cutting the deficit to one.
- Lourdes scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the inning.
- LTU went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning on one hit.
- In the top of the seventh, LTU rallied late scoring four runs.
- Lauren Fife's RBI singled scored Lauren Lanphear.Â
- Larissa Mercado's RBI single, and Tatum's RBI double to left brought around Lily Morrissette and Fife.
- Brandt came in on relief in the bottom of the seventh and shut down the Gray Wolves batters as the Blue Devils earned the comeback victory by a final score of 6-5.
By The Numbers:
- Lanphear went 2-for-3 with one run.
- Tatum went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
- Hige and Mercado both had one hit and one run.Â
- Lawler went 1-for-3 and one RBI.
Gloriana Su'a got the start in game two pitching 6.0 innings on seven hits and five runs. Su'a struck out three batters.Â
The next Blue Devils game is on Wednesday, April 13th when they play Aquinas College at Wayne State University. The first pitch will begin at 3 PM.
