Berkeley, MI - The Lawrence Technological University softball team played Indiana Tech University on Saturday afternoon on senior day. LTU would hit a walk off home run in game one in the eighth inning. The Blue Devils would then go down in game two by a final score of 12-3 (Final 5).
How It Happened: Game 1 - LTU 4, ITU 3 (Final 8)
- Both teams went scoreless in the first inning.
- The Warriors scored first on a throwing error in the second.
- Morgan James led off the bottom half and homered to center field to tie the game up.
- Indiana Tech regained the lead in the third from an RBI groundout, and stealing home.
- Gloriana Su'a came up in the bottom of the fourth and doubled to left center to drive in Lily Morrissette to make it 3-2.
- LTU would strand three runners in the bottom of the fifth and sixth on no runs.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Mazie Lawler doubled to left center to bring around Larissa Mercado to tie the game up at three.
- The Blue Devils shut down the Warriors in the top of the eighth.
- Su'a would step up to the plate in the bottom half and blasted a walk off home run to left field.
- LTU beat ITU by a final score of 4-3.
By The Numbers:
- Su'a went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
- Lawler and Lauren Fife both went 2-for-4
- James went 2-for-3, one run and one RBI.
Clover Brandt went the distance in this game giving up eight hits on three runs. Brandt stuck out four batters in her outing.Â
How It Happened: Game 2 - LTU 3, ITU 12 (Final 5)
- The Warriors scored first in the top of the first by a single to left field from Fox.
- LTU left one runner on in the first, and went three up three down in the second.
- ITU would score three in the third to go up 4-0.
- LTU answered back with three runs of their own from a RBI sacrifice bunt by Mercado and a James RBI single up the middle.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors scored five more runs on four hits and two walks.
- Warriors led 9-3 after four.
- In the bottom half of the fourth LTU went scoreless on one walk.
- ITU scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 12-3.
- The Blue Devils went down in the fifth after being held scoreless on one hit.
- LTU would drop game two by a final score of 12-3.
By The Numbers:
- Hige and Lauren Lanphear both went 1-for-2 on one run.
- Lawler went 1-for-2
- James went 1-for-3 and one RBI
- Callie Tatum also recorded a hitÂ
Su'a started game two pitching 2.0 innings on one hit and one run. Su'a struck out two batters.
Grace Schriber came in from the bullpen and gave up nine hits and 11 runs.
The next Blue Devils game is on Wednesday, April 20th when they play #16 Aquinas College for a doubleheader in Livonia, MI at The Madonna Athletic Complex. The first pitch will begin at 3 PM.
